Reşiţa: Film, Steam Locomotives and Industrial History

The Muzeul Banatului Montan holds almost 3,500 film posters from the years 1940 to 1990, as well as more than 200 theater posters. The Muzeul Cineastului Amator Reșita is a private initiative that researches the importance of the amateur film movement in Romania and aims to communicate it to the public. Its main collection consists of film cameras and projectors. Its activities include training camps for amateur filmmakers and a cine club coordinated by the museum.

The Muzeul de Locomotive cu Abur Reșița is an open-air museum at the entrance to Reşiţa from the direction of Timişoara and houses 16 exhibits from different construction periods. The most important exhibit is RESICZA, one of the first three steam locomotives built in Reșița between 1872 and 1873 in the Southeast European region. The different construction periods and the early date of RESICZA thus establish two distinct historical reference points.

In the city center, you will find the Fântâna Cinetică din Reșița. It is one of nine kinetic fountains created by the Romanian monumental sculptor Constantin Lucaci, who was awarded the Herder Prize in 1984.

The Funicularul din Reşiţa was built between 1963 and 1964. It was an old transport system for limestone and formed a 3.5-kilometer bridge, 700 meters of which run through the city.

The area crossed by the Funicularul din Reşiţa has particular historical value. In the central urban area, the line crosses a railway route on which steam locomotives from 1872, hydraulic turbines from 1946 and large marine diesel engines from 1977 were used.

The Centrala hidroelectrică Grebla dates from 1903 and is the oldest power station in the city of Reşiţa that is still in operation. It still has the same Pelton turbines with which it was originally equipped.

Poiana Golului is located at the edge of the forest and offers a viewpoint with an exceptional view of the city of Reșita.
