Alexeni: Ancient Oaks, Village Church and Ialomiţa Riverbank

Alexeni lies on the left bank of the Ialomiţa in the western part of Ialomiţa County. Its location on the river is as much a part of the village character as the two transport connections that pass through Alexeni. The Urziceni–Slobozia railway line runs through the village. Alexeni was first documented in 1431. An earlier known masonry church was built in 1815 by Barbu Slătineanu. The parish church Biserica Sfântul Nicolae was built later, between 1936 and 1938, by the village community. Its architectural features are a Neo-Romanesque style, a three-apse plan and three towers.
