The Vidra tell comprises settlement layers from the Middle Neolithic period of the Boian culture and the Eneolithic period of the Gumelnița culture, with burnt houses, hearths, and remnants of household furnishings. Settlement phases from the Late La Tène period, dating from the 3rd to the 4th century AD, the Early Middle Ages, dating from the 9th to the 10th century, and the Late Middle Ages, dating from the 18th century, are also documented there.

Geographical Location
Vidra Commune and its villages of Crețești and Șintești are located on the left bank of the Sabar River, a tributary of the Argeș. The Bucharest–Giurgiu railway line crosses the southeastern part of Vidra; Progresul railway station in southern Bucharest is 17 km away. The county road between Vidra and Capăceni crosses the Sabar via a well-maintained stone bridge.
Culture and History
The former wooden church of Vidra bore the year 1733 and the name of the craftsman Stoian on one of its beams. The war memorial of Vidra stands on Strada Principală opposite the general school. It commemorates the soldiers from the commune who fell in the wars of 1877–1878, 1916–1917, and 1941, and includes a bronze battle relief and an eagle crowned with a laurel wreath.
The church in Crețești is dedicated to Saint George the Great Martyr. The parish church in Sintești is dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God. The “Zeița de la Vidra” monument is located on the grounds of Liceul Teoretic “Alexandru Rosetti”. The school also houses a small exhibition of Neolithic artifacts from archaeological sites in the territory of Vidra Commune.
The Biserica Sfântul Dimitrie in Vidra bears the dedications of Saint Dimitrie and the Dormition of the Mother of God; their feast days are observed on October 26 and August 15, respectively. The church that preceded today’s Biserica Sfântul Dimitrie was built in 1872. Objects recovered during excavations in Vidra were handed over to the city’s history museum and to the Central History Museum of the City of Bucharest on Calea Victoriei.
The Văcărești Monastery is a ruin in the vicinity of Vidra Commune. In the broader regional surroundings of Vidra Commune are Cotroceni Palace, the Palace of the Parliament, Stavropoleos Monastery, Carol Park, Cold Spring Park, Cișmigiu Park, and Drumul Taberei Park.
Landscape
Vidra Commune lies in the Lower Danube Plain, in the subregion known as “Câmpul Câlnăului”, which is bounded by the Argeș and Dâmbovița rivers. The Tinuta and Bartoneasa (Câmpia Verde) woodland areas are described as surviving forested areas located directly near Vidra. Chub, barbel, and loach are considered characteristic fish species in the Sabar and Argeș rivers.
Events
The commune holds the “Zilele Localității Vidra” festival annually on September 8. The Parohia Vidra holds traditional concerts every year on the Sunday before Christmas and on Palm Sunday.
