Culture
Breb offers a glimpse into the rural heritage of the historic Maramureș region. The rural heritage project in Breb includes twelve traditional homesteads featuring architecture typical of the historic Maramureș region, along with numerous preserved original elements and surfaces. The traditional homesteads have foundations made of dressed stone, wooden structures, earth- or clay-based plaster and shingle roofs. Three restored old wooden houses can be seen on Ulița Casălor in Breb.
The Greek Catholic wooden church “Sfinții Arhangheli Mihail și Gavril” in Breb is a historic monument. It was built in 1622; its tower dates from 1531. The church houses an extensive collection of icons from the 17th to the 19th century. Thus, different historical periods and a religious visual tradition spanning several centuries coexist at this site.
Hotels in Breb form part of personal travel planning alongside the village’s thematic highlights. Travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions provide a separate basis for comparison; culture, nature, religious traditions and cycling remain distinct topics when putting together your stay.
Nature
The shoreline area of Tăul Morărenilor is a bog covered by a dense, continuous layer of sphagnum moss. For your planning, culture, nature and cycling can be considered as separate focuses alongside one another. The bog represents a clearly defined landscape feature, while the cycling route connects several place names in a fixed sequence.
Surroundings
The Gutăiu Mountain and Silva Mountain are located in the surroundings of Breb. The Mânăstirea Budeşti monastery is also located near Breb. The Vârful Vălenilor Mountain and the Vârful Pietrei peak are likewise in the same area.
In the immediate surroundings of Breb are the wooden church Biserica de Lemn Josani Sfântul Nicolae, the Biserica Sfântul Nicolae church and the wooden church Biserica de Lemn Susani. When planning your trip, you can distinguish between destinations in the surrounding area and those in the immediate vicinity. Mountains, monasteries and churches form different thematic groups.
Cycling
On important religious holidays, Christian rituals of the Greek Catholic and/or Orthodox traditions, as well as old local customs and traditions, can be observed in Breb. For your planning, you can view religious rituals and local customs as a distinct cultural focus alongside buildings and icons.
The cycling route “Breb – Mara – Desești – Hărnicești – Sat Șugatag – Mănăstirea – Hoteni – Breb” is 27 km long. The cycling tour therefore involves a different planning scope than individual destinations. A travel plan can take these focuses into account individually or in a changing order.
