Blidari: Moorland, volcanic rocks and trails

Blidari, Tăul lui Dumitru: The active oligotrophic bog lies on a plateau of pyroxene andesite between the Sturului Valley and the Brazilor Valley.

Nature

As a natural monument, Tăul lui Dumitru is classified as Category III. The protected area was established by Law 5/2000, lies in the locality of Blidari within the administrative territory of the Municipality of Baia Mare, and covers three hectares.

Piatra Bulzului consists of volcanic megalithic rocks; the Bulzului summit reaches an elevation of 1,051 metres. In good weather, the panoramic view from Piatra Bulzului extends over Blidari, Firiza and the Firiza Reservoir, as well as towards the northwestern slopes of IgniÈ™ Peak.

The Blidarului Valley waterfall lies a few dozen metres before the confluence of the Blidarului Valley and the Sturului Valley. The Sturului Valley is a habitat for bears.

Trails and routes

The Blidari–Poiana lui Dumitru–Pleşca itinerary includes a 9–10 km round-trip section from Poiana lui Dumitru to the Pleșca summit; this section takes approximately 4–5 hours.

When selecting a day itinerary, the trails can be grouped according to their characteristics: an itinerary with a specified round trip and time indication appears alongside routes whose descriptions mainly mention access, means of transport or surface. When cycling, paved sections and forest roads are likewise different characteristics, as are the minimum equipment and the descent to the waterfall. This keeps landscape attractions, modes of transport and the time frame separately comparable, without combining the information into a single route.

The Munții Igniș route: Blidari–Piatra Bulzului follows a 25-kilometre paved approach from Baia Mare via Firiza and Blidari to Păstrăvăria Pistruia.

Access to the Piatra Lupului route runs from Baia Mare via Firiza and Blidari; this includes buses on the Baia Mare–Firiza–Blidari route, a private car and a mountain bike.

By bike

For the cycling route through Blidari, a hardtail mountain bike is the minimum equipment. On the Baia Mare–Blidari and Șuior–Baia Mare sections, the route uses paved roads; the rest of the route follows forest roads.

The cycling route through Blidari passes the Stur quarry. The Sturului waterfall can be reached by descending into the valley.

When planning, paved roads and forest roads can be treated as separate route sections, while the routes to the moorland, rocks and waterfalls combine different landscape themes.

Culture
