Culture and History

A precise cultural and historical landmark in Sarichioi is the Biserica ortodoxă de rit vechi „Nașterea Maicii Domnului“, built in 1866. Its cross-shaped floor plan follows Byzantine models. The church has three entrances: a main entrance for women and two side entrances in the naos, reserved exclusively for men. The arrangement of the entrances is therefore just as much part of the traditional architectural description as the year of construction and the floor plan. Two Lipovan churches in Sarichioi are among the sights for visitors.

Maslenița, also known as Săptămâna Brânzei and Lăsata Secului, includes dances and joyful songs in the streets, social gatherings, and typical dairy dishes such as vareniki, blinî, and piroghi in Sarichioi. The three names are used alongside one another for this festival tradition. The Lipovan community in Sarichioi founded the folk ensemble „Landâş“ („Lăcrămioara“) to revive and preserve local traditions.
