Somova in the Danube Delta

Somova stands out for the natural Somova–Parcheș water complex. It is located in Tulcea County within the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve; the protected areas are part of the Natura 2000 sites ROSPA0031 Delta Dunării and ROSCI0065 Delta Dunării. The landscape therefore combines open bodies of water with the Danube Delta’s special protected status.

History and Getting There

Somova was first recorded in 1790 on an Austrian map under the same name. The feast of Saints Michael and Gabriel the Archangels is held in Somova on 8 November. The E87 crosses Somova commune along the Tulcea–Brăila (Galați) route.
