Donji Milanovac: Danube, Đerdap Gorge and Historic Sites

Donji Milanovac is located on the right bank of the Danube in the central part of Đerdap Gorge. The town includes a well-maintained city park and a riverside promenade along the Danube. Donji Milanovac is also situated on the EuroVelo 6 cycling route and has a port as well as a border crossing for international passenger transport on the river.

The Đerdap National Park Visitor Centre presents the geology of the area, the diversity of its animal and plant life, significant cultural and historical sights, as well as tourist attractions in the national park and the Đerdap Geopark. It is accessible to wheelchair users. An interactive tactile fossil exhibition is intended for people with visual impairments and blind people, as well as the general public. Tenkina kuća was relocated during the construction of the Đerdap 1 hydroelectric power plant in 1970, together with Kapetan Miša’s Konak, to the plateau on Donji Milanovac’s Danube promenade. The “old” Donji Milanovac was built according to a plan as the first planned settlement in the Principality of Serbia.

The Zlatno jezero hiking trail is 4 km long each way, leads to a viewpoint and is considered easy, with an average gradient of 5%. This makes its length easy to assess before including it in your plans. For a perspective from the water, Brod General offers a 90-minute panoramic trip with views of the flooded old Donji Milanovac, Poreč Bay and the foot of Mount Miroč. The Đerdap cruise operated by Brod General includes the Great and Small Kazan, the Varnica balloon stations, Mrakonija Monastery, Hajdučke vodenice, Decebal Rex and Trajan’s Tablet. Visitors can also travel on the Danube in the heart of Đerdap Gorge aboard the “General”. In the vicinity of Donji Milanovac, the Lepenski Vir Museum can be reached via the M 25.1 road, the EuroVelo 6 cycling route or by boat.
