Zlot – Natural Monument, Caves and Archaeology

The area's speleological features are known collectively as the “Zlotske pećine”. This also includes Vernjikica, a dry sinkhole cave. Inside it is the Colosseum Hall, with a diameter of more than 55 metres and a maximum vault height of 50.7 metres. The 11.5-metre-high stalagmite Kolos is considered a symbol and protective emblem of Vernjikica.

Hajdučica Cave is 723 metres long and is characterised by a variety of cave formations. Mandina Cave is approximately half as long as Hajdučica Cave and contains stalactites and stalagmites. Water Cave is 180 metres long. Stojkova ledenica is a karst shaft with horizontal and vertical sections of passage. These differences help you consider the cave area according to the respective forms and dimensions, without reducing the individual features to a uniform experience.

The cultural and historical side is also distinct. Lazareva pećina is an important archaeological site with three cultural horizons. It dates from the Eneolithic period, the 4th–3rd millennium BC; numerous copper objects such as needles, awls and daggers were found there. The Mining and Metallurgy Museum in Bor preserves artefacts from Zlotska pećina and Lazareva pećina.

A hike through Lazarev Canyon can begin at Lazareva pećina. At the same time, you should bear in mind that there is no developed path in the canyon. This combination is crucial for planning: the natural and cave landscape is the main attraction, but on-site orientation should not be equated with a developed walking trail.

For Lazareva pećina, a tourism season from 1 May to 15 October with guided tours was planned. For this planned season, daily opening hours of 09:00 to 16:00 were stated.
