Tutin: Culture, Caves and Via Ferrata

The Hamzagića House in the centre of Tutin was built in 1908. In the surrounding area, the cave passage of Godovska Cave is approximately 320 metres long; since 1980, the cave has been a protected natural asset of the Municipality of Tutin. In the municipality, the Paljevska rijeka in the village of Paljevo has a waterfall more than 20 metres high. Tutin therefore offers both a clear cultural attraction in the town and natural destinations with different spatial and practical requirements.

The Hamzagića House is considered one of Tutin’s most significant historic and cultural assets. The divanhana is particularly revealing: it has retained its authenticity and is characterised by wooden walls, a wooden ceiling, a wooden floor and old wooden windows. The windows have a special opening and closing mechanism dating from more than 100 years ago. This makes it possible to understand not only the building’s year of construction but also its preserved craftsmanship through a single building.

The Fatimija Mosque in Tutin is recognisable by its dome and two minarets. In its courtyard, his original grave marker was discovered more than seven decades after the death of Mufti Šerif-efendija Hamzagić (1860–1951). It bears an inscription in Ottoman Turkish script. The Hamzagića House and the Fatimija Mosque thus represent different forms of historic and religious heritage within Tutin.

The Đurđevica Via Ferrata is located in the gorge of the Ibar River, where the Ibar flows into Gazivode Lake. It is 700 metres long and consists of two routes for different levels of experience. However, an important restriction must be taken into account when planning at present: Since 20 August 2026, the Via Ferrata has been closed for safety reasons and to better control its use. All visits and ascent registrations must be announced and arranged in advance.

Godovska Cave offers a different kind of natural experience. Access leads along approximately half a kilometre of narrow paths, partly over snow and moss and alongside a stream. This includes a challenging section near the border area. The first tunnel of Godovska Cave is accessible to visitors. Anyone planning to visit this destination should therefore distinguish between the accessible first tunnel and the specific requirements of the access route. In addition, the Promuklice spring is located in the gorge of the Vidrenjak River. In the village of Paljevo, the waterfall of the Paljevska rijeka makes the landscape around Tutin visible as another clearly described natural destination.
