What defines its spa and wellness character?

Seven mineral water springs are known in Vrnjačka Banja. One of them is the Topla voda spring, with a water temperature of 36.5 °C. It is located in the central spa area. The mineral spring was already used during the Roman period, from the 1st to the 4th century AD.

The Merkur area includes four mineral water springs: Topla voda, Jezero, Snežnik and Slatina. In front of all four springs and in each drinking hall, information boards provide details about the chemical composition of the water, its therapeutic effects and correct use. This gives you objective information on site for assessing the springs, without having to evaluate the individual waters based on general assumptions.

The Rimski Izvor spa centre comprises five centres: Centar Medicinske Estetike, Velnes, Peloid Centar, Centar za masaže and Balneo Centar. This division makes the wellness area visible as an independent focus of the town. What nature and park experiences are available?

For walks in the countryside, Vrnjačka Banja’s main tree-lined path has a documented length of 1.5 kilometres. In the nearby surroundings, Mount Goč offers opportunities for skiing in winter and for long walks and picnics in summer. The two seasons therefore appeal to different travel interests, without this implying any particular snow reliability or a fixed range of sports activities.

The Japanese Garden is located in Vrnjački Park and covers an area of 3,000 square metres. Its features include a small lake with an island, a tea house, a cascading waterfall and a bridge. The garden is therefore a clearly defined area of the park, while Goč is a destination for an excursion into the surrounding area.

A more active option is the adventure park in Vrnjačka Banja. It has nine obstacles, professional equipment and certified operators.

Which cultural sites and historical themes are noteworthy?

Zamak Belimarković is located on a slope above the Topla voda mineral spring. Construction work was carried out under the supervision of engineer Franc Vinter from 1888 to 1894. Zavičajni Museum is housed in the castle and contains archaeological, ethnographic, historical and art-historical collections. It also contains the permanent exhibition Muzej banjskog lečenja, located in a department of the Museum of Science and Technology.

Crkveno brdo, also known as Čajkino brdo, is located in the centre of Vrnjačka Banja. The rock is attributed to volcanic origins and is protected as a spatial cultural and historical entity. Crkveno brdo is home to a glass viewing platform with a total area of 60 square metres. Of this, 22 square metres consist of glass; the viewing platform is 24 metres above ground level.

Letnja pozornica is also located on Crkveno brdo. It is a cultural events venue and hosts the Festival filmskog scenarija as well as other events. Another unusual sight is the Zlatni most bridge over the Vrnjačka stream. It is dedicated to mathematics and displays a plaque with the formula for the golden ratio.

Most ljubavi is the best-known of a total of 32 bridges along the Vrnjačka and Lipovačka rivers. Together with the museums, the protected cultural and historical entity and the event venues, they create a cultural offering that encompasses both historical themes and modern forms of urban and event culture. In 1868, the Osnovatelno fundatorsko društvo lekovite kiselo vruće vode u Vrnjcima was also founded in Vrnjci.

Which events can influence your travel planning?

Lovefest is a cultural platform originating from Vrnjačka Banja that promotes music, art and urban youth culture. The central event of the Vrnjački Carnival is the Grand International Carnival Parade. Since 2010, the cultural event Dani Bate Stojkovića has also been organised, featuring theatre performances, meetings with actors, literary evenings and concerts.

The Festival filmskog scenarija takes place in Vrnjačka Banja in mid- or late August and is dedicated exclusively to film screenwriting. Its accompanying programme includes the Summer Academy of Film Dramaturgy, which has been held since 1996.
