Priboj – Old Town, Lim River and Cultural Destinations
Priboj lies on the Lim River and connects an old district with a new one. For planning your trip, this means that both historical sites and museums as well as river experiences, events and destinations in the surrounding area are relevant.
Key facts about Priboj
Priboj stretches along the Lim River and is divided into an old and a new district. The Belgrade–Bar railway line runs through the town and is therefore an important reference point for arriving. The Priboj Native Museum is located in two buildings in the center of the Old Town. Its departments are dedicated to archaeology, art history and ethnography.
Which historical sites characterize the Old Town?
The Old Town can be explored through several individual architectural and cultural monuments. The Hasan-agina Mosque stands there and was built around 1758. The Jevđević Memorial House is considered the oldest surviving house in the urban area of Priboj’s Old Town. Jagat on Mount Bić above the Old Town is another historical reference point. Jagat is considered the best-preserved fortified site on this mountain.
Access to Jagat is divided into two sections: You can drive by car to the foot of the fortified site and then continue on foot. The permanent exhibition at the Native Museum Priboj presents everyday objects collected mainly from rural households in the municipality of Priboj. The objects date from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The two museum offerings therefore differ both in their departments and in the character of their exhibitions.
