Štiavnik has a clearly named mountain destination in Veľký Javorník. From here, you can ascend to it; it lies 1,071 m above sea level. Landscape and cultural connections complement this mountain setting.

Nature

Štiavnik lies in the Javorníky Mountains, in the valley of the stream of the same name. The Štiavnik Valley stretches from the Váh Valley to the foot of Veľký Javorník. Štiavnik is also one of the municipalities in the Javorníky part of the Kysuce Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Kysuce). The surrounding mountains are each described within a clearly defined range: Kykula Mountain is in the immediate vicinity of Štiavnik; Petrovská Kyčera, Palesek and Orgoňova Kyčera are in the vicinity of Štiavnik. Thus, the valley area, the protected-landscape connection and the individual mountain locations stand alongside one another with their respective spatial relationships.

Getting around

Another trail connection leads from Štiavnik via Kykula or over the Butorky saddle at an altitude of 982 m to the Kasárne recreational centre. Several cycling routes lead through Tancová and Ráztoka towards Petrovická dolina. In addition to the ascent to Veľký Javorník, these local connections therefore include a link to Kasárne and a separate cycling route towards Petrovická dolina.

Culture

Numerous old songs, folk music and dances have been passed down in Štiavnik. The village is one of the municipalities in the surroundings of Bytča associated with the regional wire-craft tradition. Archaic forms of local woodworking survived until the recent past. Local heritage therefore ranges from musical and dance forms to regional craft traditions.

In the centre of Štiavnik stands the Church of Saint Francis of Assisi. It is a Baroque-Classical church built in 1771. The Church of Saint Helena is also located in the wider regional surroundings of Štiavnik. The references to churches therefore extend from the centre of the village into the wider regional area.
