Veľké Rovné: Find wirework, an educational trail and hotels

Veľké Rovné is considered the unofficial birthplace of wirework.

Culture

In the centre of Veľké Rovné stands the Múzeum Drotárie. It is a reconstruction of one of the oldest buildings in the centre of Veľké Rovné and is open on weekdays by prior arrangement. The Múzeum Drotárie is also home to Slovakia’s largest nativity scene, made by L. Mikulík, a native of Veľké Rovné.

The Church of Saint Michael in Veľké Rovné was built in 1753–1755 on older foundations. It contains a bell made in 1763 by the bell founder J. Steistock, featuring bas-reliefs of Saint Anne and Saint Michael the Archangel.

The Chapel of the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary in Veľké Rovné is in the Classical style and was built in 1831. It stands opposite the Church of Saint Michael the Archangel, is in good condition and continues to serve its religious purpose. A Stations of the Cross route leads from the settlement of Ninise to the Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Hájku.

Hiking, cycling and winter

The Veľké Rovné educational trail runs through the village centre and Rimanovice to the Osičie saddle. It is 4.1 km long and has an elevation gain of 320 m. The information boards along the Veľké Rovné educational trail are in good condition.

For cycling, Route 1 of the Kysucká cyklomagistrála runs through Veľké Rovné towards Semeteš, Turzovka and Staškov. In winter, a 300 m-long ski lift can be used in Veľké Rovné.

Landscape

The Zarúbaná Kýčera lookout tower stands in the cadastral area of Veľké Rovné. It is a three-storey wooden structure on the 884 m-high Zarúbaná Kýčera mountain. A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from Ivor via Dolinky to the lookout tower.

The Zarúbaná Kýčera lookout tower is currently inaccessible due to its dangerous condition. Parking spaces for access to the lookout tower are located in Veľké Rovné–Ivor or in the settlement of Dolinky; the nearest bus stop is Veľké Rovné–Ivor.
