Hotels in Vlčkovce: Culture, Nature and Regional History
Vlčkovce combines sacred monuments, visible traces of regional economic history, and protected nature with concrete opportunities for active days. The village itself and its surroundings contain evidence from various eras; at the same time, exhibitions, a climbing park, and the Cyril and Methodius Route are part of the character of the municipality.
Culture and History
An important cultural landmark is the Church of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux. It stands on the site of an older church. Some statues and paintings from this predecessor building were transferred to the present-day structure and still adorn it. The present-day church was consecrated on October 6, 1934, by the Bishop of Trnava, ThDr. Pavol Jantausch.
The sacred monuments of Vlčkovce also include the stone Baroque cross. It is the oldest sacred monument in Vlčkovce and was erected in 1777 in the newly established cemetery. Thus, the municipality preserves both the memory of an older church site and a precisely dated monument from the 18th century.
The Vidiecky dom Vlčkovce is also one of the local cultural landmarks. The house was ceremonially opened and made accessible to the public in 2017. The picture is complemented by the municipality’s traditional activities, including exhibitions of fruit, vegetables, flowers, and handicrafts.
Regional Traces
Two sugar factory chimneys are a widely visible symbol of the municipality of Vlčkovce. They recall the agricultural past as well as the well-known sugar factory history of Farkašín. The chimneys thus represent part of the regional history, which is reflected not only in individual buildings but also in the area’s inherited economic character.
Several other historic sites are located in the surroundings of Vlčkovce: Šintava Castle, Kaštieľ Nebojsa Manor House, the Posádka Ruins, and the Renesančný kaštieľ Manor House. Each of these names refers to a separate site in the vicinity of Vlčkovce; the four landmarks are not combined here into a single estate or common complex.
Nature
The Vlčkovce area includes Mount Šanec. Farther afield in the region are Mount Šarkán, Hlboča Waterfall, and Mount Klokočina. Their geographical classification remains distinct: Šanec is located in the surroundings of Vlčkovce, while Šarkán, Hlboča, and Klokočina belong to the wider regional area.
The Vlčkovský háj bears a special designation. It has been listed as a protected natural formation since 1994 and contains endangered plant and animal species. Alongside the mountains and waterfall, this means that an explicitly protected natural area is also part of the landscape around Vlčkovce.
Leisure and Routes
Vlčkovce has a Tarzania climbing park. The Cyril and Methodius Route is also relevant for cyclists, with its different route specifications: it includes 33 km of cycle path and 31 km of unpaved route. Both offerings are listed as concrete features of the village or its routes and complement the cultural and landscape landmarks with active leisure opportunities.
