Domžale is the location of the first checkpoint on the Domžalska pot spominov: it is situated by a monument next to the footbridge over the Kamniška Bistrica. The route has the status of a mountain hiking trail and is one of the long-distance hiking trails recognized under the Mountain Trails Act. It is over 100 kilometers long and runs at elevations between 300 and 957 meters, at Špilk above Blagovica.
When planning a trip, the desire to find a hotel in Domžale may also be the main focus.
Hiking and Cycling
The well-marked Pravljični Šumberk route is 3.54 kilometers long; it takes a family about three hours. For cycling, the MTB poligon Šumberk has marked trails with varying difficulty levels for recreational cyclists and mountain bike training.
The almost 8-kilometer-long Domžalska čebelarska učna pot combines exercise with the topic of beekeeping: along the route, visitors can discover beekeeping and its history. Along the Pot ob Kamniški Bistrici, there are rest areas with drinking fountains, children's playgrounds, and outdoor fitness equipment. The Slamnata kitka cycling route starts and ends in Domžale and runs along side roads through extensive fields beside the Kamniška Bistrica.
Culture and History
The Slamnikarski muzej Domžale presents a permanent exhibition on 300 years of straw hat weaving in the Domžale area. On display are typical Domžale straw hats, the tools used to make them, the manufacturing processes, and related stories. For school groups, the museum offers themed tours with experiential creative workshops.
Grad Krumperk is a Renaissance castle with a square floor plan, distinctive corner towers, and a rarely preserved corbel-supported roof cornice. In the former castle park of Dvorec Češenik, a Baroque garden pavilion has been restored. The church of Marije Vnebovzete na Goričici stands at a site with a church history dating back to the Middle Ages.
The Mestni kino Domžale focuses its film program primarily on art-house and auteur films and also offers high-quality content for children and young people. The Poletno gledališče Studenec is Slovenia's third-largest covered open-air theater. The local theater performance at the Poletno gledališče Studenec dates back to an initial performance in 1949.
Nature and Leisure
Knezove skale is an outdoor climbing area with views of the Kamniška Bistrica and the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. It has 23 equipped climbing routes with difficulty grades ranging from 3 to 7b.
Železna jama has two chambers connected by a passage and bridges. It is known for its curved stalactites and stalagmites, whose shape was influenced by the wind during their formation. The Jamarski muzej can be visited in the Jamarski dom, with permanent exhibitions. These include a speleological collection featuring stalactites and stalagmites from the collection of the naturalist Franc Hohenwart dating from the early 18th century. The Robič natural history collection of the Jamarski muzej also includes a special species of blind beetle named after the biospeleologist and explorer Simon Robič.
The Konjeniški center Brdo pri Ihanu offers visitors the opportunity to make first contact with horses and enjoy recreational riding. Riding lessons for beginners and advanced riders are available for younger and older participants. Kopališče Domžale includes an Olympic-size pool, two massage pools, a paddling pool, and a learning pool with a slide.
