Nature and Trails

Lake Jasna can be reached from the centre of Kranjska Gora via a footpath in just a few minutes. Around the lake, visitors can use the boardwalks and walking paths. The Zelenci nature reserve, classified as a Natura 2000 site, is also located near Kranjska Gora. It includes the source of the Sava Dolinka and the Drni marshes. A well-maintained forest path and a wooden footbridge lead visitors to Zelenci; next to the reserve, a viewing tower offers views of the emerald-green lake and the Ponce Mountains.

Part of Kranjska Gora extends into Triglav National Park; the town also has more than 20 marked hiking and walking trails.

Culture and History

Liznjek House has been operated as an ethnological museum since its renovation in 1983. The building was constructed in the second half of the 17th century and features elements of rural Baroque from the 18th and early 19th centuries. Another historical connection runs along the road over Vršič Pass, which connects Kranjska Gora with Log in Trenta. It was built by Russian prisoners of war during the First World War and is also known as the “Russian Road”.

In the area around Kranjska Gora, the Russian Chapel and the grave of a Russian soldier are memorial sites connected with Russian soldiers and the First World War. Also in the area, in Mojstrana, the permanent exhibition at the Slovenian Alpine Museum covers preparation for mountaineering, mountain huts and summit ascents. After visiting the museum, visitors can solve puzzles and codes, avoid mountain-themed traps and escape to a bivouac.

Activities for Different Days

A guided visit to Kekčeva dežela begins in Kranjska Gora and takes visitors to the attraction by special bus. Kekčeva dežela offers a ride on the Bedancbus, slides, a treetop high trail and a secret tunnel. Misija Eliksir is an outdoor escape-room experience in Triglav National Park: for 90 minutes, participants focus on logic and skill-based puzzles as well as following a map. Participants collect the equipment and receive the first instructions for this in Kranjska Gora.

The Bike Park Kranjska Gora caters to mountain biking. It is Slovenia’s oldest mountain bike park, has been operating since 2004 and offers trails for all levels of experience and technical ability across an elevation difference of approximately 300 metres. In the park, the Vitranc 1 four-seater chairlift takes visitors to the top of the park. The Brsnina lift serves the Brsnina Trails, which are also suitable for beginners. In winter, the Kranjska Gora ski resort offers 21 ski slopes with varying levels of technical difficulty.
