Lenart V Slov. Goricah: Hotels, Nature and Culture

Lenart V Slov. Goricah can be explored from several perspectives: nature, history, outdoor activities and regional specialities all come together here.

Nature

Lake Komarnik is designated as a natural asset of national importance. Around the lake, there are walking trails with signposts and information boards, as well as special infrastructure for birdwatching. The Franc's Educational Hiking Trail also runs through the protected area of Lake Komarnik. This marked, easy 2.7-kilometre educational hiking trail makes it possible to discover plants and animals in the protected area of Lake Komarnik.

Trails and outdoor activities

The European Educational Trail runs through Dr. Joze Pucnik's Town Park in Lenart. Along this trail, basic information is provided about the member states of the European Union and their flags. Another marked route is the Agata's Educational Hiking Trail: this easy, one-way trail is 3.1 kilometres long and leads from Hrastovec via Komarnik to the Black Cross.

There is also a designated cycling route. The Lenart Cycling Route runs through the municipality of Lenart and is a more demanding cycling route due to its varied terrain.

Culture and history

The Church of St Lenart was first mentioned in 1196. During the Ottoman incursions, it also served a defensive function. Due to its high-quality architecture and detailed stonework, it is considered the finest example of “Slovenske gorice Gothic”.

The permanent exhibition “Stalna razstava Slovenske gorice v letu 1848/49” is on display at the Center of Slovenske Gorice in Lenart. It covers the activities of Slovenes between the Mura and Drava rivers in 1848/1849 aimed at unifying the Slovenian language and script. It also addresses the beginning of the movement for an independent Slovenia in 1848/1849.

Local educational history includes the founding of the first regular school in Lenart in 1759; it had a full-time teacher. Another historic building is the Old Primary School, a neoclassical building from 1895 in the centre of Lenart.

Regional specialities

At Kramberger Wines, homemade bread and homemade pastries are baked in a brick oven. Slovenskogoriška gibanca is prepared as well. Upon request, Kramberger Wines accommodates groups of up to 40 people and prepares cold cuts and tastings.

Visitors can see a beehive and taste honey. A honey tasting is also organised.
