Dolnja Počehova: Hotels, Railway Viaduct and Sacred Heritage

Dolnja Počehova is home to the railway viaduct, which was built as part of the section of the Southern Railway between Graz and Maribor (Celje). Construction began in spring 1844 under the direction of Carl von Ghega and lasted more than two years. The viaduct was 21 metres high and 649 metres long. This made it the longest bridging structure on the entire Southern Railway route between Vienna and Trieste.

Culture and History

The sacred elements in Dolnja Počehova include the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. It stands on a hill at a viewpoint overlooking the Pesnica Valley. The pedestal is square and has a shallow, semi-circular niche. The Lopičeva Chapel in Dolnja Počehova is part of the sacred heritage.
