Vas: Mills, Agricultural Heritage and Archaeology
In Vas, the Snežičeva sawmill and the mill stand along the Erhatov stream in an authentic setting. Together, they form a characteristic farming complex, of which only little has been preserved. The ensemble is an important ethnological monument.
Culture and Crafts
The Snežičeva sawmill has an old classical mechanism that was adapted to electric power. The Tišlerjev mill, equipped with a water wheel, stands along the Mivčev stream. It preserves an old, functional milling mechanism with millstones. The Tišlerjev mill is considered one of the last old farm mills preserved to this day. The surroundings of the restored Tišlerjev mill have been prepared for tourism.
History
The Markačev barn at Vas 24 dates from the 19th century. It displays agricultural equipment, including a threshing machine from 1915, a fruit press completely reconstructed in 2010, and a grain mill designed and built by Anton Markač (1901–1970). Following a major reconstruction in 2009, the Markačev barn was fully converted into a space for exhibitions and entertainment.
Archaeology and Nature
Beneath the Herkove pečine lies a cave classified as a natural and archaeological monument of exceptional importance because such sites are rare. It is regarded as a prehistoric hunting station; its sediments have been dated to the Middle Pleistocene. A test trench excavated in 1939 revealed simple stone tools and struck cobbles made of coarse-grained quartz, which were attributed to the Paleolithic. However, later investigations did not confirm the archaeological finds. The archaeological evidence must be distinguished from the separate fossil finds dating from the Pleistocene: the cave mainly yielded fossils of cave bears, alpine marmots, wolves and foxes.

On the respective offer pages, you can objectively check the stated location, accommodation type and occupancy for Vas. Visitors can also pay attention to which services are included and which price components are listed separately. When reviewing booking and cancellation conditions, it is advisable to read the respective wording in full. This information shows how individual offers actually differ, without requiring additional assumptions about their facilities or suitability. For comparison, it is also helpful to read occupancy not merely as a number, but together with the stated accommodation type and included services. Price components may be listed separately; the booking and cancellation conditions therefore form part of the same verifiable framework. This keeps the assessment focused on the information provided by a specific offer itself and avoids conclusions about features that are not stated there. Particularly with different types of offers, occupancy, included services, price components, and booking and cancellation conditions should each be read separately and not transferred from another listing. Even different naming of individual services does not change the fact that only the specifically stated fields should be compared.
