Mislinja: Štrekna, Culture and Nature

Mislinja can be explored through specific destinations and traces of its history. One of the notable points of interest is Štrekna, a paved cycle path running along the abandoned route of a former railway line. The section of Štrekna in Mislinja is the most varied part of the route and includes its highest point. The highest railway station in the former Yugoslavia once stood here.

Cycling

Štrekna runs on a separate cycling path and is particularly suitable for children and older people. There are several rest areas and former railway tunnels along the route. This section therefore combines the visible traces of the former railway line with a clearly structured cycling path, without requiring any additional characteristics of the route.

Culture

The Tisnikar House is a 17th-century building that was originally an ironworks. The house contains the Kavka Gallery and an information centre. It also hosts art courses and exhibitions, as well as the international Tisnikarjeva likovna kolonija, Grabn Art and Mala Tisnikarjeva kolonija.

The fully preserved Robnikova kovačija houses numerous tools, including a water-powered hammer. Another historical attraction is the Church of St Ahac. It was built in the second half of the 15th century, around 1470, and is a well-preserved example of Gothic architecture. The nave also has a wooden ceiling dating from around 1730.

Nature

Zois Park has largely been preserved. It is home to trees around 250 years old, which are among the thickest in Slovenia. Huda Luknja was opened to visitors in 1895 and is one of the larger natural attractions in the Koroška–Šalek region.

Sport

The Mislinja ski-jumping centre has the plastic-covered HS-93M, HS-72M, HS-35M and HS-15M hills. The centre also has a chairlift and lighting.

Traditions and Events

The charcoal-burning tradition in Mislinja is maintained on the municipal holiday during the last week of June. At the Pozdrav jeseni event, the largest local products are selected and weighed. Bread and other delicacies are also displayed.
