Culture

Sele's cultural heritage also leads to Franc Ksaver Meško. A memorial room dedicated to him has been set up in the parish house in Sele. Sele is also known as “Meškove Sele” because Franc Ksaver Meško was the parish priest there, as well as a friend and adviser to the local population. The name thus refers to his local role, while the memorial room makes this memory visible in the parish house.

Churches

The sacred heritage includes two churches with different names. St. Roch and St. Sebastian's Church in Sele has frescoes from the late 16th century and Baroque furnishings in its star-ribbed-vaulted presbytery. The Church of St. Nicholas in Sele is first mentioned in 1335. A statue of St. Erasmus is located on a side altar of this church. The frescoes, Baroque furnishings, year and statue each remain associated with the church named in connection with them.

Feast Day

St. Roch's Day is celebrated in Sele every year on 16 August as a village festival. Many pilgrims from the surrounding area and farther afield come on this occasion. On St. Roch's Day, many pilgrims arrive by car and walk the final short section to the church. The annual date combines the stated form of the celebration with the described journey and the short final stretch on foot.
