Culture and History
The Zasavski muzej Trbovlje offers a tour of an authentic miners’ apartment in a miners’ colony. The permanent exhibition “Srečno...črne doline” covers ten key topics concerning the development of the three towns in the Zasavje region over the past 200 years. By prior arrangement, the museum can also organise a presentation of other miners’ colonies with bread ovens and entrances to mine tunnels.
The Ethnological Trail through Trbovlje’s miners’ colonies is approximately 3 km long, starts in Njiva and passes through six different colonies. It is equipped with 16 information panels; a guide for an independent tour is available at the Zasavski muzej Trbovlje.
The Park of Culture is a newly established interpretation site commemorating Trbovlje’s industrial and cultural heritage. Rudarski dom was built during the miners’ strike of 1923 and burned down on 1 June 1924 during clashes between the workers of Trbovlje and the fascist Orjuna. Next to it stands Delavski dom, a newer and considerably larger cultural centre.
The Rudar Prometej monument stands on the slope of Ostri vrh; from there, the view extends across a large part of the Trbovlje valley. The monumental Monument to the Revolution was created by the sculptor Stojan BatiÄŤ and the architect Boris Kobe.
The Trbovlje–Čebine–Sveta Planina–Trbovlje route passes the Barlič farmstead, where the founding congress of the KPS was held secretly on the night of 17–18 April 1937. The ground floor houses a museum about the political events and the situation of the working class during the period between the two world wars.
Nature and Trails
Kum Landscape Park encompasses the southern part of the municipality of Trbovlje and extends to the 1,220-metre-high summit of Kum. The park primarily serves recreation and the preservation of the characteristic landscape, and was included in the Natura 2000 network in 2004.
The PD Trbovlje mountaineering club maintains eight mountain trails registered with the Alpine Association of Slovenia. The hike from the Sava to the summit of Kum via Trbovlje and Dobovec takes approximately three hours. The Trbovlje–Mrzlica–Trbovlje cycling route is signposted.
Culinary Experiences
The “Black Gold” experience includes a visit to a coffee roastery in Trbovlje. There, visitors learn about coffee and how to prepare it correctly.
Getting There
Trbovlje railway station can be reached by train from Ljubljana or Zidani Most. From there, regular bus services run through the town. TRajBi e-bikes can also be rented at the station, allowing you to reach the town centre.
