Culture and History
Kromberk Castle is the main exhibition venue of the Goriški muzej. It presents permanent exhibitions on art and cultural history as well as temporary exhibitions, hosts lectures and symposia, and is surrounded by a park with an amphitheatre and an open-air lapidarium.
The tomb of Charles X (1757–1836), the last French king from the Bourbon dynasty, is located in Kostanjevica Monastery, together with the tombs of five family members and his court minister.
With a span of 85 metres, the Solkan Bridge is the largest stone arch bridge in the railway network worldwide. It has been protected as a technical monument since 1985.
Trg Evrope / Piazza Transalpina lies on the border between Slovenia and Italy and represents the coexistence of the two border cities as well as European integration.
The Museo Provinciale Palazzo Attems museum is located in the vicinity of Nova Gorica. The Castello di Gorizia, the Palazzo Arcivescovile and the Palazzo Coronini Cronberg are also located nearby.
The Stara solkanska mizarska delavnica ethnological collection commemorates Solkan’s historic carpentry tradition.
Landscape and Wine
The central part of the municipality is the Lower Vipava Valley wine-growing region. In the Urban Municipality of Nova Gorica, visitors can take wine tours and enjoy wine tastings while discovering the rich winemaking tradition.
The Banjšice Plateau is one of the natural upland areas of the Urban Municipality of Nova Gorica. The rural areas of the Urban Municipality of Nova Gorica are known for hiking and cycling trails, vineyards and local cuisine.
Sabotin is known for its diverse flora and fauna, is a popular destination for hikers and cyclists, and offers panoramic views in all directions.

Cycling and Trails
From the centre of Nova Gorica, the rest of the urban area of Nova Gorica, Šempeter and the Italian city of Gorizia can be reached by bicycle within 20 minutes, excluding significantly steeper residential areas such as parts of Kromberk.
The Plave–Nova Gorica cycling trail runs along the emerald-green Soča River at the foot of Sabotin and is part of a cross-border network of cycling and hiking trails.
The cycling circuit to Sveta Gora is a short mountain stage with two steep climbs: from Kromberk to Ravnica and then onwards to Sveta Gora.
Local Cuisine
The Goriški or solkanski radicchio is native to the area around Solkan, where locals call it “sukenski regut”; knowledge of its demanding cultivation is passed down from generation to generation.
