Croatia today has all the prerequisites to become one of the leading centers of health tourism. The mild climate of the Adriatic, exceptional environment, extensive network of spa resorts - all these aspects allow the Balkan state to attract the so-called "golden generation" - the elderly tourists, who have the time, resources and desire and who are ideal consumers of medical tourism services.
Uniqueness of medical tourism in Croatia lies in the fact that all the country’s holiday regions can offer treatment in the most popular tourist enclaves, including the famous islands of Croatia.
Among the popular Croatian medical tourism areas are ophthalmology, dentistry and plastic surgery. Among the key client groups are Germans, Italians and Austrians.
In addition, Croatia is one of the world leaders in transplantation medicine. For example, 228 kidney transplants were made in Croatia in 2011. This is the highest number of operations in the world for one million people.
Despite the fact that spa holidays are more tourist than health-improving, one way or another it is connected with health and can also be regarded as a factor of health and medical tourism growth in Croatia. Today in the country there is a wide range of spa hotels, which have long been recognized among the leading hotels of this type. Among the most famous spa hotels of the country are Resort Spa & Sport Resort St. Martin in Sveti-Martin, which Croats call the best hotel for the weekend.
One of the indirect indicators of medical tourism popularity in Slovakia can be active construction of medical centers around the Adriatic coast. Thus, one of the largest medical centers in Dalmatia is planned to be opened by mid-2012 in Split. Investments in the construction will be amounted up to 15 million Euros, according to travelvideo.tv
