Durrës: Archaeology and Beach

Culture and History

The Amphitheatre of Durrës was built in the 2nd century AD and is open to the public as an archaeological site. It was built around the 15th century on the foundations of a Byzantine tower.

Museum

The Archaeological Museum of Durrës was founded in 1951 to preserve, research and present the historical heritage of ancient Dyrrachium, or Durrës. It arranges its objects chronologically from early antiquity to the Middle Ages. The collection includes more than 3,000 artefacts, including Roman funerary stelae, stone sarcophagi, small busts of Venus, mosaics, sculptures, ancient vases, rare coins and everyday objects.

Coast

The beach of Durrës stretches along the coastal city of Durrës for approximately 10.5 kilometres. It has shallow water and a gently sloping entrance into the sea. Activities available at the beach include jet skiing, boating, parasailing and volleyball.
