Shkallnur: Hills, Coastal Views and Rural Experiences

Shkallnur combines nature experiences, rural offerings and culture. These facets emerge in different places and along different routes: in the hills near the sea, on farms shaped by agriculture, during horseback rides and at historical and wine-growing destinations.

Nature and Trails

The Kodrat e Shkallnurit offer panoramic views in hilly terrain near the sea. The landscape is suitable for hiking, nature walks, picnics and mountain biking. The Kodrat e Shkallnurit also have a route of approximately 10.4 km that can be completed on foot.

Agriculture and Cuisine

At Pema e Jetës, the agricultural aspect is directly connected to the restaurant. Meat, vegetables, fruit, dairy products and pasta from the farm are processed fresh every day and served directly in the restaurant. More than 200 goji plants also grow on the farm; their fruit is used in the restaurant's dishes.

Visitors to Pema e Jetës can collect produce in the gardens and cultivated areas to eat at the restaurant or take home. The activities also include “A Day in the Life of a Farmer”. Individuals or families can take part in daily agricultural and livestock-related work together with the farm staff. Accompanied by staff, children can visit the stables and animal shelters and use designated play areas.

Kodra e Kuajve also combines rural activities with regional cuisine. Located at the summit of Shkallnur Hill, the site offers views of the Durrës coast and horseback rides with 15 horses of different breeds under the guidance of riding instructors. Kodra e Kuajve's restaurant serves traditional Albanian dishes as well as fresh regional products.

Culture and Wine

Arapaj is another village in the Rrashbull area, which also includes Shkallnur, and is home to the Basilica of Saint Michael. The basilica has a polychrome floor mosaic and was declared a first-category cultural monument in 1987. Also in Arapaj, the vineyards of the “Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu” winery cover 40 hectares.
