Pinet: Wine Region, Olive Groves and Historic Traces
Pinet is located in a historic wine-growing region associated with the cultivation of the indigenous grape varieties Shesh i Bardhë and Shesh i Zi. The landscape includes the Shesh–Pinet–Calabërzezë–Eminas hill range. It lies at an altitude of 300 to 500 metres above sea level and offers views of the Bay of Durrës and Ishmi. Wine-growing, elevation and open vistas give the area a distinct landscape character.
Culture
The remains of Varosh Castle, dating from the 4th to the 6th century, are located in the surroundings of Pinet. Later, in the 13th and 14th centuries, Varosh Castle was rebuilt in the vicinity of Pinet. Different historical periods are therefore associated with this place, without equating the older complex with the later building phase.
Local cultural heritage is mentioned as one of the features along the Eco-Connect trail through Pinet. The trail therefore leads not only through the landscape, but is also connected with cultural elements of the local surroundings.
Nature
The planned Eco-Connect trail through Pinet is intended to connect olive groves. In the area of the planned agrotourism trail through Pinet, the Eco-Connect project also promotes biodiversity. Both aspects are part of the project's intended character: connecting landscapes and promoting biological diversity.
Regional Products
There are olive trees in the surrounding hills of Ndroq, some of which are reported to be up to 3,000 years old. Ndroq has a tradition of olive cultivation and olive oil production; eight olive oil mills are mentioned in the area. Olive culture therefore ranges from very old trees to the locally named oil-production facilities.
In connection with the planned agrotourism trail through Pinet, the Eco-Connect project promotes local products. Farms are mentioned along the Eco-Connect trail through Pinet. The “Vineyards way” hiking trail also reflects this regional connection: it includes a waypoint at an olive oil mill.
Hiking
Pinet is a stage location on the Eco-Connect pilot trail for agrotourism. The Eco-Connect pilot trail is described as moderately difficult. Its planned or designated route leads from Pinet via Sauqet and Kodra e Djerrës to the Liqenet e Sabielit and onward to Çalabërzezë.
The Eco-Connect itinerary includes maps. The Eco-Connect trail is also intended to be shown on Wikiloc. Thus, both cartographic materials and a planned digital presence are mentioned for the trail.
The “Vineyards way” hiking trail is rated as moderately difficult. In addition to its waypoint at an olive oil mill, the trail's rating is therefore also one of its named features.
