History
Chkalovka was founded by Russian settlers in the 19th century. The Russian founding population came from the Saratov region of Russia. The village is associated with a heritage established by Molokan settlers. Before 1946, the settlement was named Alexandrovka. On April 26, 1946, it was renamed Chkalovka in memory of the pilot Chkalov. The historical names Zeynal Abedin, Zeynal Aghalu, Palu Postnik, Korkotis, and Korkotia are recorded. Descendants of the original settlers left Chkalovka during the 1960s.
Getting around
Chkalovka is included as an overnight stop at a guesthouse on a seven-day rural tour through Armenia. From this stop, the tour continues along the shore of Lake Sevan toward the peninsula.
