Aramus: Hotels and Accommodations

Culture and History

At the western entrance to Aramus stands Aramus Fortress, a Cyclopean/Urartian fortress. Radiocarbon evidence dates its use from the mid-9th to the end of the 4th century BC; the most intensive period of use was from the 7th to the 5th century BC.

Archaeological evidence from the fortress includes pottery, worked obsidian associated with the production of stone tools during the Iron Age, a red tuff cult stele, and weapons and jewelry made of bronze and iron.

The site is located on an elongated ridge approximately 400 meters long and approximately 300 meters wide. It rises about 50 meters above the surrounding area and covers approximately 10 hectares.

Visitors can explore the remains of the fortress. These include relatively well-preserved walls and entrance gates, recognizable interior structures in the western and central forts, and elongated terraces on the slopes of the central fort.
