A challenging and scenic hike from Garni to Voghjaberd is 23.3 kilometers long and passes through Hatsavan and Geghadir.

The route to Azhdahak from Geghadir covers approximately 18–20 kilometers round trip and takes about 8–10 hours. Access to the Geghama Plateau is not marked with formal trail signs; a downloaded GPS track is therefore essential. A vehicle with high ground clearance is required for the upper road to the Geghama Plateau.

Geographical Location

Geghadir lies on the western slope of the Voghjaberd Mountains at an elevation of 1,880 meters above sea level. The settlement is located on the Yerevan–Garni road.

Kotayk Province combines historical monuments, scenic areas, hiking trails, and cultural experiences. From Yerevan, Kotayk can be reached by car, taxi, minibus, or bus, as well as through organized tours.

Culture

The S. Hovhannes Chapel in Geghadir was built in 2009. A khachkar dating from the 12th to 13th century is recorded in Geghadir.

History

Geghadir was formerly known as Kyarpichlu and was renamed in 1935.
