Mərdəkan: Hotels and accommodations

Culture and history

The castle was built in 1187–1188, served as a refuge for the local population during attacks, and also functioned as a lighthouse or minaret as well as an observation post. It was restored in 1955.

The Pir-Həsən Shrine in Mərdəkan contains two mausoleums. Pir Həsən is described as a person who lived in the 17th century. A two-line Arabic inscription is located above the portal of the main entrance on the main façade. Extensive renovation of the shrine began in 2025.

The Round Castle of Mərdəkan, locally known as Shikh Castle, was built in 1232. The Khanbaba Bathhouse was built in 1483 and is associated with the era of the Shirvanshahs. The Heydar Mosque was built in 1893.

Nature

The Mərdəkan dendrological garden is temporarily closed. Admission for larger numbers of visitors is suspended during repair, improvement, and reconstruction work. The garden covers 12 hectares and contains up to 1,800 tree and flower species, as well as eight botanical-geographical plant exhibitions. It also includes a house museum dedicated to Sergey Yesenin, ponds, and six artificial waterfalls.

Beach and water

Dalga Beach Aquapark in Mərdəkan offers kayaking, jet skiing, and water skiing. The beaches in Mərdəkan can be reached from Koroghlu Metro Station by bus in just over an hour or by taxi in approximately 30 minutes. Restaurants in the beach recreation area serve Azerbaijani and Italian cuisine.
