Culture and History
Admission to the Nardaran Historical and Cultural Reserve is free, but a special permit is required. Nardaran Fortress is classified as an architectural monument of worldwide significance.
It is believed that the Nardaran Shrine marks the burial place of Rahima Khatun, the daughter of Imam Musa al-Kazim. After Azerbaijan regained its independence, the shrine was reconstructed as a religious complex with a large dome and four tall minarets.
Historical buildings near the Nardaran Shrine include a mosque dating from 1307–1308, a 17th-century mosque, and a caravanserai. The bathhouse distributed heated air through channels beneath its stone floor, thereby heating its rooms and the floor. The Nardaran ABAD Center for Ceramics and Applied Arts regularly hosts ceramics master classes and training sessions.
Landscape
Wind-driven accumulations of sand around Nardaran form deposits 12 to 18 meters high. The Qalagah area, also known as Ăśmid Rocks, is associated with the period of the earliest settlements in the Gobustan Reserve.
