Culture and history
The Franopol Hillfort has a circular area measuring 30 meters in diameter, surrounded by an embankment 1.5 to 2.5 meters high. It was built around 950 to 1000 and destroyed at the turn of the 10th and 11th centuries.
Finds from the Franopol Hillfort include spearheads, arrowheads, axes, and a sword crossguard. A fitting from a sword scabbard from the Franopol Hillfort is documented among the weapon finds from the western territories of Rus'. Excavations uncovered wooden structures on the inner side of the embankment to prevent sliding, as well as temporary wooden buildings that served during a siege to protect the population from nearby open settlements.
