Culture and history

The stone Catholic Church of the Transfiguration in Nowaja Mysch was built after a fire in 1825. Its eclectic architecture combines stylized forms of Classicism and Gothic. In Nowaja Mysch, a Catholic church and an Orthodox church, both dedicated to the Transfiguration, face each other across the central square and form an architectural ensemble; both are described as active.

In 1870, residents of Gintsevichi were among the parishioners of the Church of the Transfiguration in Nowaja Mysch. The Church of the Transfiguration is regarded as a historical and architectural monument.

According to a family account, the manor house in Hincewicze was described as a large brick building with a ballroom, organs, and a fishpond. Gincewicze, also known as Hincewicze, was historically recorded as an estate in Nowogródok County; the Gincewicze estate, also known as Hincewicze, was described as belonging to the Pietraszewski family. In a wartime report, Gintsevichi is mentioned as a location on the line reached by 4:00 a.m. on July 8.

Nature and bodies of water

The Myshanka River begins near the village of Buinevichi in Baranawitschy District and is 109 kilometers long. Two unnamed lakes, referred to as the Gintsevichi Lakes, are located near Gintsevichi in Baranawitschy District. A stream flows through the smaller of the two Gintsevichi Lakes and empties into the Myshanka River.

Crafts and museums

The Mysh castle site lies south of the village of Staryja Mysch on the bank of the Myshanka River. A reconstruction model of Mysh Castle can be seen in the exhibition of the District Center for Folk Crafts in the village of Rusino.

The District Center for Folk Crafts in Rusino combines workshops for pottery, weaving, carving, straw weaving, and embroidery with a five-column museum exhibition. The grounds of the District Center for Folk Crafts include a windmill, a forge, a well, and wooden sculptures of pagan gods. Traditional celebrations at the District Center for Folk Crafts include Christmas and Maslenitsa.

The Baranawitschy Local History Museum presents exhibitions on the nature and history of the region, as well as on the city of Baranawitschy. It offers guided tours for various visitor groups and educational museum programs.

Regional history

The established international historical and cultural excursion route “Following the Trails That Inspired Adam Mickiewicz” runs through Baranawitschy District, with stops in Baranawitschy, at the Zaosie Manor Museum, the Philaretes Stone, and Tuganowitschi Park.
