History and Culture
The architectural heritage of the wider Pruzhany District includes the palace complex of the Sapieha princes in Ruzhany, dating from the 16th–18th centuries; the Dominican Church of the Holy Trinity, the Church of Saints Peter and Paul and the Basilian Monastery; the Mission Church and Mission Monastery in the village of Lyskovo, dating from 1763–1785; the ruins of Lyskovo Castle from the 15th–16th centuries; the wooden bell tower in Shereshevo from 1799; and historic parks of former estates in Pruzhany, Kashtanovka and Stary Kuplin.
The Tsar's Road was opened in 1903, was formerly a military-strategic road and connects the Belarusian town of Pruzhany with the Polish town of Hajnówka. The surviving bridges of the Tsar's Road date from the time of Alexander III; their decorations featuring double-headed eagles were destroyed in the 1920s and have since been restored.
