Culture and History

At 11A Sovetskaya Street in Pahost-Zaharodsk stands a church dating from the second half of the 19th century. The Orthodox Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Pahost-Zagorodskiy dates from the 19th century. The present-day Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Pahost-Zaharodsk is based on a building erected in 1779 as the Church of Saint Joseph.

After Kalinowski's uprising in 1863, the church in Pahost-Zaharodsk was converted into an Orthodox church. In 1945, the church in Pahost-Zaharodsk once again became the Orthodox Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius.

Before the Second World War, the Jewish community of Pahost-Zaharodny maintained a Hebrew school, a Talmud Torah, a library, and a dramatic circle. The historical sites of Pahost-Zagorodskiy include a former yeshiva and synagogue from the late 19th century, as well as a destroyed Jewish cemetery.

At the beginning of the 21st century, a former synagogue building was still preserved in Pahost-Zaharodsk. Remains of the Jewish cemetery also survived in Pahost-Zaharodsk at the beginning of the 21st century. Pahost-Zaharodsk also has a roadside chapel that probably dates from the 19th century.

In 2017, a historical memorial with commemorative plaques for L. Golembiowski and K. Drutsky-Lyubetsky was consecrated in Pahost-Zaharodsk. In 2018, a monument was unveiled in a cemetery in Pahost-Zaharodsk to local residents and prisoners brought there from concentration camps who died during the fascist occupation.

A memorial site associated with Pahost-Zagorodskiy for Holocaust victims is located in the Mała Dolina (“Little Valley”) wilderness, in the forest along the road to Vyaz and in the former ghetto area.
