Ljubuški: Cultural Heritage, Waterfalls and Outdoor Experiences

A central attraction is the Humac Museum in the Franciscan Monastery of St Anthony of Padua. It was founded in 1884 and is considered the oldest museum in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The museum displays archaeological material from the wider Herzegovina region spanning prehistoric, ancient and medieval periods over almost 16,000 years. The complex also includes a lapidarium with stone monuments in the monastery courtyard.

The wider surroundings of Ljubuški also contain traces of various eras. In Humac lie the partially explored and conserved remains of the Roman military complex of Gračine, dating from the 1st to the 3rd century. In addition, the wider area contains seven necropolises with a total of 214 registered medieval stećak tombstones.

Koćuša Waterfall is located in the village of Veljaci in the municipality of Ljubuški. It is five metres high and 50 metres long and is situated near historic mills and stamping mills. Cycling routes are available in Ljubuški, allowing visitors to explore the destination. A relatively flat running and walking path along the Trebižat embankment in Ljubuško polje has few obstacles and is therefore suitable for beginners.

For hikers, Vrlosinj is offered as a recreational hiking tour. At 954 metres, it is the highest peak in the municipality of Ljubuški. Paragliding is also available in Ljubuški for both cross-country pilots and recreational pilots. Hercegovina GO! offers an off-road safari through Ljubuški in Pinzgauer all-terrain vehicles.

The Ljubuški Outdoor Festival takes place in May beside Kravica Waterfall and includes competitions, entertainment and music. On the canoe safari, the journey begins on calm water and becomes faster and more exciting near the river mouth.

The Ljubuški Carnival takes place every year towards the end of winter. The annual children's music festival brings children together for an entertaining competition programme. The Ljubuški Jazz Fest includes seven-day jazz workshops that give interested young people the opportunity to receive jazz training. During the holidays, an event with a variety of cultural, entertainment and gastronomic offerings also takes place in the town centre.

The local wine scene includes several different tasting formats. The Smokva wine bar offers local wines for tasting. The event “Kušaj ljubuška vina” offers wine tastings from nine wineries in Ljubuški. A family wine cellar offers wine tastings for up to 50 guests, accompanied by locally produced spirits and traditional Herzegovinian fare consisting of cheese, prosciutto, fruit and vegetables.

Ljubuški is connected via the A1 motorway as well as regional roads towards Međugorje–Mostar, Čapljina–Stolac and Grude–Posušje.
