Gaytaninovo showcases its history, among other places, at the Church of St. Nicholas: it was built in 1839 and is connected with the Bulgarian religious and educational revival of the village. A 20-metre-high bell tower was added in 1885, and a large clock was installed in 1890, described as still keeping accurate time.

At the Kulata locality, located approximately 4 km west of Gaytaninovo, pottery indicates settlement during the Early Iron Age. The wall of the Kulata fortress was partially reused in the Middle Ages; remains of an ancient fortress wall have also been preserved there. Gaytaninovo developed in the 18th and 19th centuries around the extraction of iron ore from magnetite sand. The mining operations covered approximately 500 decares, and the iron ore was washed in artificially created pits and stone troughs. The smithies in Gaytaninovo produced horseshoes and nails for markets in the Thessaloniki Vilayet; around 120 smithies were operating there. Iron ore extraction continued until 1870. Blacksmithing and house building were established crafts in Gaytaninovo.
