Yavornitsa: Hotels and Accommodation
Yavornitsa is located at the northern foot of the Belasitsa Mountain, and the Yavornishka River flows through the village. Six houses in Yavornitsa are designated as cultural monuments. The village’s preserved older residential buildings reflect architectural traditions of the Rhodopes as well as Ograzhden–Maleshevo. In some courtyards, Chardakli barns with post-and-wattle construction have also been preserved.
The Anton Popov Community Center maintains groups for authentic folklore, arranged folklore, singing, and folk dancing. It participates in international, district, and municipal festivals and gatherings, performing in Romania, Greece, and North Macedonia. Yavornitsa’s annual village gathering takes place on May 24. The village’s church feast on May 11 includes a kurban ceremony at the church.
History
Yavornitsa is mentioned in Ottoman registers from 1570 and 1664 under the name Yavorniche. A relief slab depicting three nymphs from antiquity was found in Yavornitsa and its land area. North of Yavornitsa, near the village, lies the locality of Graka Chuka, with a Thracian burial-mound necropolis consisting of eight mounds dating from the Late Iron Age and antiquity. Remains of ancient settlements have also been found in the surrounding area.
