Dolen: Hotels and Accommodation

Dolen preserves more than 70 houses from the 18th and 19th centuries that are typical of the Revival architecture of the Rhodopes. These include the Sharkova House and the Grigorova House.

In the old part of Dolen, the Church of St. Nicholas was built in 1834 as part of a church and school complex. Its iconostasis is attributed to Georgi Filipov. The annual calendar also includes a traditional gathering known as the local community gathering. It takes place on the first Saturday and Sunday in August at the St. Iliya or Ilinden locality.

In the Satovcha area, local specialties featuring meat and vegetables are prepared; each village has its own recipe. Birch gum is also produced there. Satovcha has a museum collection dedicated to the history and culture of the area, which is accessible to residents and visitors.

The area surrounding Dolen is home to Nikopolis ad Nestum. The wider regional area includes Katáchloro, Sourdílovo, and Mavrochóri.

Dolen is located in the mountainous Dabrash area between Pirin and the Rhodopes. The Doleshnitsa River flows through the valley, while oak and pine forests surround the settlement.
