Nature

Birdwatching in the Poda protected area is indicated from the visitor centre terrace or along a visitor trail. Binoculars, spotting scopes, observation hides and the accompaniment of ornithologists are also mentioned. Approximately 315 bird species have been recorded in the area, which covers about one square kilometre.

The Chengene Skele locality, designated as a protected area, includes part of Kraymorie; it was protected in 1995 because of its rare birdlife.

The Foros ecozone lies immediately next to Kraymorie and is suitable for birdwatching and peaceful nature excursions. It is located on Lake Mandra, whose water surface covers approximately 1,300 hectares.

Culture and History

During underwater surveys near Cape Chiroza, a shipwreck from the 18th to 19th century was found. The surveys also uncovered material from the 5th to 1st century BC, from the Roman period and from the Middle Ages.

On the Foros Peninsula, remains of the ancient and medieval Burgos/Poros fortress and harbour have been preserved. The foundations of three buildings were also uncovered there, including two administrative buildings and a luxury villa.

The combination of nature and ancient history on Foros is suitable for cultural and educational tourism.

The Chengene Skele complex is described as having a café and a restaurant where specialities are prepared according to established recipes.
