Balabansko is located in the central Stara Planina Mountains, on the slopes of a basin at an altitude of around 600 meters, and faces south. The peaks Visokia Tser and Turski dyal are located in the immediate vicinity of Balabansko. The surrounding area includes the peaks Chuklata and Chereshov dyal. The Troyanski Manastir Monastery is also located in the surrounding area. The Central Balkan National Park is situated in the wider regional surroundings of Balabansko.
Culture
Balabansko has archaeological remains from the Roman era. These include burial mounds near Malka Yazova Mogila, between Ravna Usoyna and Murlat, and in the hamlet of Mутевското. There is also a locally identified footprint of Krali Marko near the Zhidova Path.
Historically, pottery was an important local craft in Balabansko: almost every household had a pottery workshop and a kiln for firing ceramic products. The Church of St. George in Balabansko was opened on July 30, 2011. Balabansko's village festival takes place on the first Saturday in June.
