Shipkovo: Hotels and Accommodation
Shipkovo is located on the eastern slopes of Vassilyov Mountain and has mineral springs and boreholes with temperatures ranging from 18 °C to 35 °C. The town occupies the valleys of the Malka and Golyama rivers, which merge to form the Razhdavets River.
Geographical Location
Road III-358 connects Shipkovo with Troyan. Shipkovski Mineral Baths is located 2 km west of Shipkovo. In the wider municipality, about 8 km from Shipkovo, are the municipality’s most extensive raspberry plantations. Raspberry cultivation is described as a traditional local livelihood; ripe raspberries can be enjoyed in midsummer.
Wellness
Shipkovski Mineral Baths was officially designated as a resort in 1946. The Shipkovo resort has several outdoor pools, including pools with warm mineral water. A fountain with four outlets supplies four types of water.
Nature
The rock chapel of Sts Peter and Paul stands within the territory of Shipkovo at an altitude of 1,300 metres. It can be visited when there is no ice or snow. From the Vassilyov Hut, a developed path with a rope handrail leads to the rock chapel of Sts Peter and Paul in approximately 15–20 minutes on foot.
Culture
The Church of the Ascension of Christ is designated as a cultural monument of local significance. It was consecrated in 1858 and preserves an authentic iconostasis and icons. It can be visited by prior arrangement through the Shipkovo mayor’s office.
There are several workshops in Shipkovo where souvenir and household ceramics are produced.
