Nature and Landscape

Along the Ribine River, the rare water lily Castalia alba occurs in the area of Lehchevo in the Municipality of Boychinovtsi. The municipality lies in the Danubian Plain; a small part is located in the Pre-Balkan of the western Balkan Mountains. It includes the fertile river valleys of the Ogosta, Botunya, and Ribine.

The municipality’s densest peony meadow is located near Madan. Along the Ogosta, the protected Natura 2000 zones of Păstrina and Portitovtsi–Vladimirovo have been identified as possible routes for ecological and ornithological tourism. In addition, four old trees are monitored in the municipality: three Hungarian oaks and one English oak. They stand in the Gorno Livage area of Murchеvo and in the former schoolyard in the Ogosta district of Boychinovtsi.

Culture

In 2020, the Church of “St George the Victorious” in Boychinovtsi was among the preserved and functioning churches. In May 2017, the cultural festival “Spring by the Ogosta” took place in Boychinovtsi, continuing a local tradition.

Transport and Accessibility

Boychinovtsi is an important railway junction connecting the municipality and the regional center of Montana with Vidin and Sofia. Rail and bus services serve the municipality. The railway network extends within the municipality through Boychinovtsi, Murchеvo, Ohrid, Pali lula, and Erden. The international E-79 road runs 17 kilometers from Boychinovtsi.

Activities

There is an air sports center in Erden, within the Municipality of Boychinovtsi. It offers aviation activities, parachute jumps, sightseeing flights, and advertising flights, as well as training for paragliding, gliding, and parachute pilots and the organization of competitions.

The Madanska Bara Reservoir near Madan is located within the Municipality of Boychinovtsi. Development for sport fishing and recreation has been proposed for it.
