The Yablanitsa Gorge lies between Vrabcha, Transka Bankya and Tran. It is designated a natural landmark in the areas of the town of Tran and the village of Bankya, in Tran Municipality. The Yablanitsa River formed the gorge. An eco-trail passes through karst-erosion landforms and nature rich in species. To explore the gorge on foot, you can start the trail in the village of Transka Bankya.
The Erma Gorge also offers distinctive scenery: visitors can observe unique flora and fauna, as well as numerous endemic species. The eco-trail passes through a man-made tunnel in Zhilav Kamak rock and leads to a viewing platform at Tsarkvishteto rock. There is also a landscaped park by the river where visitors can rest.
Vrabcha Waterfall is 4 metres high and is designated a natural landmark. Beside the waterfall, the water has carved a 20-metre-deep tunnel through the rock. The VeloErul cycling route passes through the village of Erul, has mixed terrain, is marked blue and is of moderate difficulty. The route length and approximate time required can help you plan your day. Which cultural sites can you visit?
Footprints and handprints of the saint, as well as a petrified loaf of bread, are still visible in the rock chapel of Sveta Petka. The chapel is designated an archaeological cultural monument. In summer, it is open Wednesday to Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. In winter, visits are possible Wednesday to Sunday by phone appointment made the previous day; it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
The Yogurt Museum explores both the history of a food and the science behind it: visitors can learn about the life and work of Dr. Stamen Grigorov, who discovered the bacterium that makes up the yogurt culture Lactobacillus bulgaricus. The exhibition traces the history of yogurt from home fermentation to modern technologies. The Historical Museum in Tran has historical and art history departments.
The church of Erul Monastery also offers points of interest in art and architectural history. Its architecture is characteristic of the period from the 11th to the 14th century; the church also contains valuable old icons from the 17th and 18th centuries. Next to the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin in Nasalevtsi stands the Nasalevtsi Oak, which is more than six centuries old.
