Borovo: Hotels and Accommodations

Borovo is situated on the southern slope of the Gradishte Ridge at an elevation of 1,030 meters above sea level. Distinctive rock formations rise above the village. Local tradition connects the name Borovo with pine forests that once covered the settlement and the surrounding land.

History

The first documented mention of Borovo dates to 1083 and appears in the Typikon of the Bachkovo Monastery community. Borovo is mentioned again in an Ottoman tax register from 1576. The history of modern settlement began in 1903, when families from Momchilovtsi settled there after the Ilinden–Preobrazhenie Uprising.

Culture

Krastova Gora is located six kilometers from Borovo and is visited year-round by pilgrims and believers from Bulgaria and abroad. The churches in Borovo and Manastir were built through voluntary work and local funds. Authentic folklore groups associated with the cultural centers of Borovo and Dryanovo resumed their activities in 2008 and attracted attention throughout Bulgaria.

The Hristo Botev Cultural Center in Borovo focused on organizing cultural events and entertainment for residents as well as for tourists visiting Krastova Gora. Celebrations for church holidays are planned in Borovo.

Nature

Municipal projects have created eco-trails in the Borovo area. Transport in Laki Municipality is entirely road-based.

Local Traditions

Traditional activities in Borovo included agriculture, livestock farming, and work related to the surrounding forest. In Laki Municipality, the tradition of making homemade cheese from milk is preserved. Porcini mushrooms grow in the forests throughout Laki Municipality and are used in the traditional dishes of its settlements.
