Kalofer: Hotels and accommodations

Kalofer is a starting point for the ascent to Botev Peak, the highest summit in the Balkan Mountains. Those wishing to book a hotel in Kalofer can continue their accommodation search afterwards.

Nature

The Byala Reka Eco-trail is located in Central Balkan National Park northwest of Kalofer. The longer route takes about an hour and crosses the river at several wooden bridges. Information boards along the trail provide information about plants and animals found in Dzhendema.

The Byala Reka bivouac offers camping beside the Byala Reka River, with tables, benches, fire pits, and toilets.

On the way

Raisko Praskalo is a 124-meter-high waterfall described as the highest waterfall on the Balkan Peninsula. Kalofer is also a starting point for the ascent to Botev Peak. The panoramic Tarzan Trail leads from Rai Hut to Botev Peak and takes about three hours. The route from Panitsite to Rai Hut runs entirely through Central Balkan National Park and takes about four hours.

Culture

The Hristo Botev National Museum was built on the site of the last home of the Botev family. The complex is located in Boteva Garden and includes a memorial house museum and an exhibition hall. The ensemble is designated as a group cultural monument of national importance.

The Daskal Botev School houses a permanent exhibition tracing education in Kalofer during the Bulgarian National Revival, as well as reconstructed classrooms. The school was founded on the initiative of Botyo Petkov with donations and voluntary assistance from the residents of Kalofer.

Kalofer lace developed from Brussels lace; its motifs include roses, edelweiss, leaves, tulips, and sunflowers. The Kalofer Lace Festival has been held every year on August 15 since 1999.
