Culture and History

A prominent historical landmark in Mariza is the Church of St. Nicholas. It dates back to the 16th century and has medieval origins. Its wall paintings are designated as a cultural monument of national importance.

The newer Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Mariza was built in 1907 and is the village's parish church. In 2017, its 110th anniversary was commemorated with a liturgy and a blessing ceremony. There are also three chapels near the village.

The traditional livelihood in Mariza was connected with local iron production. This brought economic growth in the second half of the 16th century.
