Culture

Brestnik is home to the Orthodox Church of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, built in 1861 by local residents. A local legend connects Brestnik with the site of Manastirskoto. It tells that, in view of the frequent passage of Circassians and Turks, villagers sought the protection of a local landowner.

Brestnik hosts the traditional Day of the Folk Musician, a gathering of folk orchestras held on the second day of Easter. Babin Den is celebrated here on January 21; around 200 people gather for the occasion in the village square. The custom is reenacted by amateur performers who prepare for it at the community center for a month. Trifon Zarezan is also celebrated in Brestnik.

Wine

The Trifon Zarezan winery is associated with wine tourism in Brestnik. A winery operating in Brestnik has vineyards within the village and grows Merlot, Cabernet, Mavrud, and Rubin for red wine production.

The Dragomir Wine Estate is located on a hill near Brestnik. It focuses on Bulgarian grape varieties from the Thracian Valley, including Mavrud and Rubin. Wine tastings are offered there.

Every year, in the first week of December, the municipality organizes the “Dionysian Young Wine Celebrations.” The wine produced in Brestnik is highlighted among the local wines of the area. Making wine at home remains a tradition in the area; homemade wine is served at festivals.
